The Rhinoceros

Sunlight dropped in below the trees
where stood a black rhinoceros
his armor thick against the radiation
his face proud, his body fat with muscle
He chewed on a mouthful of fresh grass
and I watched his jowl compress repeatedly
as we stared at each other
over the single rail that seperated us
His black eyes squinted through sunset haze
trying to see through blindness
to glimpse me
the part that only the eyes can see
I leaned on the warm rail
watching the great horn dip and sway
contentedly alone, perfectly serene
in the eyes
where I saw my reflection
