The American Will

accepting defeat is simply not an option
to play means to play hard, always
to never give up means to believe
that you can win, no matter the odds
no matter the time left on the clock
no matter the amount of men you have on the field
the will to win, to achieve goals, to be champions
that is The American Will.
Its why so many in the world despise us
it is why so many around the world
mark us from the very beginning
to beat the U.S. is to slay the unconquerable beast
so many around the world wish it more than anything
to beat us just once. Some succeed,
and celebrate as if it were the end of the world
these are those that don't understand what it means to win.
The American Spirit refuses to concede with a single victory
it is not in our nature to be so content.
So many around the world chastise us for this trait
to never be content means to always strive for more,
we are said to be greedy, pretentious, and insatiably hungry for more
we are criticized for our greatest gift: desire.
It's what drives us, it's what makes us tick
without it we would be lost.
We drive fast cars, eat delectable food
we own expensive property and dominate world economics
so many around the world count us privileged, and hate us for it,
and once, I was one of them.
Until I realized what is actually the case:
that we worked for everything we have,
through the strength in our backs
and the hope in our hearts.
It has instilled in us the will, the power, the proclivity
to conquer the opponent, to prevail in the face of defeat,
there are examples throughout all of history...
You can bitch and complain, cheat or delay, but the ball never lies
